She wears her red hair hacked off short, and when not in armor she favors sensible, plain clothes. Her voice is as clear as a bell and capable of great volume. Theia speaks Common with a Genifari accent. |
Background: Theia had a privileged childhood, as the younger daughter of the chieftain of Clan Heithalata (her sister Norikini is chieftain now). Growing up in White Tower, the clan castle, Norikini and Theia were trained intently in combat, in keeping with the proud family tradition of raising mighty warriors. As a teenager, Theia felt herself called to the worship of Tormo, and after a great deal of training military and divine, she became one of the few paladins on Ixinos.
As a teenager, Theia joined the She-Wolves mercenaries as one of the Spear Sisters, when Chanea (now Queen's General of Ixinos) was leader of that group. Despite her noble background and special divine powers, she showed great humility and obedience, as well as a remarkable aptitude for battlefield tactics. Within a handful of years she had become Chanea's aide, right-hand woman, and close friend; her popularity among the rank and file She-Wolves was great as well. In 1354 D.R., when Queen Vahero (Chanea's old commander in the She-Wolves) became Queen, Chanea resigned from the mercenary group to take up her position as Queen's General. Theia, to no one's surprise and nearly everyone's approval, succeeded her at the age of only 27.
Theia does not force her troops to adhere to the same strict code she lives by as a paladin, but she does insist (even more so in recent years) that the She-Wolves never take any mercenary job that would force them to injure or oppress the innocent or the good. For instance, the group has refused numerous lucrative offers to fight elves in the Chondalwood, or even to act as guards for logging operations there, but they have always refused. Most of their work comes from hunting bandits for various cities, towns and landowners; guarding honest merchant caravans through dangerous territory, or fighting orcs and other monsters in places as far afield as Chessenta, the Western Shaar, and the Vast.
Many believe that Theia will be the next Queen of Ixinos; conventional wisdom favors either her or General Chanea. Theia and Chanea are great friends and feel no rivalry over this situation. They have a tacit agreement that whichever one of them becomes Queen will retain the other as Queen's General.
Roleplaying Notes: Theia is tough but kind-hearted, and greatly loved by the other She-Wolves. She is respectful toward males who have done nothing to anger her, but she trusts women more than men. She has no compunctions about using her detect evil ability and her discern lies spell on prospective employers, and will refuse to work for anyone who fails either test.
Should she or her comrades be betrayed in some non-harmful way by an employer (by being refused their pay, for example), Theia will usually be satisfied with letting her warriors take what is due them -- by force, if need be -- and then either turning the cheater over to the authorities or spreading the word than he is dishonest, whichever option seems most realistic. If any employer double-crosses the She-Wolves by knowingly leading them into traps or ambushes, causing them to be dishonored through lies or trickery, or manipulating them into harming innocents, Theia would not consider it a violation of her code to have the offender put to a quick death...after using interrogation and magic to ensure that he is truly guilty and not acting under some sort of compulsion.
Theia loves children, and goes to great lengths to see that none are harmed within her sight. She has never found the time to have any children of her own, however, which saddens her.
