The Dethek numerical runes are used on Ixinos for numbering, and seem to have been from time immemorial; it is thought that they were probably in at least informal use in ancient Raumathar and Narfell, borrowed from the Dwarves. The Dethek numbers are the most suited for tallying and accounting, which is mainly how the Ixinians use numbers, in addition to dating and simple arithmetic. For most of their history, the people of Ixinos used a system of reckoning years based on the founding of the island, with -150 DR being considered Year 1. Each year began at the first full moon after the vernal equinox. They retained the old Raumathari system of months, with each one beginning at the full moon, and miscellaneous "festival days" placed here and there to make the years come out right. Following the expulsion of Anaglathos' forces in 1247 D.R. (1397 in Ixinian reckoning), Ixinos adopted Dalereckoning and the Calendar of Harptos for official purposes, so as to put it better in step with the outside world (to keep pace with it, not to welcome it). Alaundo's prophetical "Roll of Years" is of no interest to the Genifari, however, and they have not adopted it. |
