Many centuries ago, the regions around the northeastern end of the Sea of Fallen Stars (the areas today known as Thay, Rashemen, and Thesk) were occupied by the rival empires of Raumathar and Narfell. For the last several centuries of their existence, these two lands were in an almost constant state of war. In those days, mortals could wield magic with far greater power than they can today, and it was inevitable that these wars would finally degenerate into contests of magical might. Both empires came to be ruled (in fact if not in name) by the various wizards' cabals who waged war against the enemy...and occasionally, against each other. The Sisterhood of Black and Silver was one of these cabals. Operating in Raumathar, this group claimed that its mythical founder, known only as the Moondaughter, was created by the Goddess of the Night in the earliest times, before that goddess split into the two opposing personae of Selûne and Shar. In actuality, the group was probably founded in secret during Raumathar's early days, as a way for women to learn the magic that was forbidden to them in that male-dominated era. In its early days, the Sisterhood was mysterious and secretive. Men, of course, considered it a grave threat, and it was common for any woman found to be a member of it, or even consorting with it, to be put to death as a witch. The group came to be known as the "Witch-Cult". Times changed, and later generations of Raumathari decided that they were too enlightened to persecute women any longer for daring to practice magic. Actually, they were probably just eager to use the Cult as an "ace in the hole" in their increasingly frequent and furious battles with Narfell. Now operating openly, the Cult proved itself a startlingly effective weapon. Allies and enemies alike marvelled at the witches' uncanny ability to harness the power of the moon to aid their magic. "Their might swells and ebbs like the tides, in rhythm with the moon in the sky," wrote the famous general Ersket of Nethentir. "When it is at its peak, it is as unstoppable as the high tide." Men found the Cult's bizarre teachings about the inferiority of males and the position of women as sole creators of life unsettling and distasteful, but the witches were too powerful and too useful to be forced back underground. In time, the more powerful witches attracted young women from all across the empire to attend them as students, apprentices, bodyguards, or servants. The Cult became a growing social and political as well as magical power. By the time the final calamitous battle between Raumathar and Narfell occurred, powerful witches exerted control over entire cities and vast tracts of land, much to the chagrin of the males who still held the official reins of power. One of the most formidable witches was Kuzello, who ruled (unofficially) over the great port city of Kensten (where Bezantur now stands) from her magnificent palace of marble, mother-of-pearl and lapis lazuli, overlooking the sea. Kuzello was a leader of a group within the Witch-Cult known as the Order of the Blue Sky Above. This group believed that the accumulation of political power and wealth would best serve the interests of the Cult (and, incidentally, of themselves). Selfishness and hedonism were its hallmarks. Kuzello was attended by nine apprentices of advanced ability, and several lesser students, as well as a standing bodyguard of 50 imposing female fighters, none of them less than six feet tall. Over a hundred servants, both male and female, tended to the marble palace and its grounds. The day came, some 150 years before the raising of the Standing Stone in the Dales, when the mages of Raumathar and Narfell engaged in a great spell-battle and found themselves unable to control the powers they had unleashed. In a calamity known as the Rage of Fire, or the War of the Summoned, both Raumathar and Narfell were virtually laid waste. The mages of both nations lost control of the mighty beings they had summoned, some of whom -- powerful fiends and monsters from other planes -- may well still linger in the Realms to this day. Some refugees from Raumathar fled to the west, where they founded the four city-states of Impiltur (Lyrabar, Hlammach, Dilpur and Sarshel). Others made their way south into Mulhorand and Unther. The folk of Narfell fared worse: those few who survived became the ancestors of the fierce tribes of horsemen that roam the land today known as Narfell. |
The members of the Witch-Cult saved themselves as best they could. Many members of the Order of the Unshadowed Dark, who in their black cloaks and face masks had occupied the front lines of the war with Narfell, escaped into an extra-dimensional stronghold within the Forest of Lethyr. Years later, they emerged and became what are today known as the Witches of Rashemen.
Kuzello, dwelling on the coast as she did, was able to escape the destruction with all the members of her household, in her magical moon-galleon. This ship was a normal (large) galleon, but whenever the moon shone in the sky (day or night), the ship could rise above the waves and sail through the air with no concern for heavy seas, currents, sea monsters, or hostile ships. Kuzello, with all of her apprentices, bodyguards and servants, fled southward in her ship.
After a journey of several days, the ship arrived at a group of three islands guarding the entrance to a large arm of the Sea of Fallen Stars. At that time, the only human habitations in the Vilhon Reach were scattered, temporary fishing encampments, populated by remnants of the fallen empire of Jhaamdath and folk from the northern reaches of Chessenta. Kuzello chose to place her new home on the innermost of the three islands, for two reasons: first, the treacherous currents and reefs surrounding the outer two islands would deter unwelcome visitors from passing beyond, and second, the innermost island was relatively clear of trees, while the other two were nearly covered in young forest. The inner island would offer better farmland and more living space.
The island, however, happened to be occupied. A Great Sphinx named Shilabat -- perhaps the last of her kind remaining in the Realms -- was accidentally released from a temporal stasis spell by the newcomers. It took the combined power of Kuzello and all the apprentices to defeat this mighty opponent, at the cost of two apprentices' lives. Not willing to kill so breathtaking a creature, Kuzello placed her back in temporal stasis and had her sealed within the subterranean chamber where they had found her. There she remained for over a millennium and a half.
Kuzello named the island Ixinos, which in one ancient language means "Land of Birds", because of the vast flocks of birds nesting in the island's sea-cliffs. Farming began, the foundations were laid for the two port cities of Tazixor and Euzoret, and Kuzello assumed the rulership of her new domain.
Kuzello never assumed the title of queen, instead calling herself the First Lady of Ixinos. She was a pragmatic and effective ruler, though autocratic and with little tolerance for disobedience or incompetence. She ordered that all able-bodied females were to be trained in the use of weapons and the arts of war, thence to become either members of the standing defensive army, or the priesthood of Selûne or Sharo (who had been the patron goddesses of the Witch-Cult) or the Silver Sisterhood, the order of mages headed (in title) by Kuzello and administered by her apprentices.
Laws were passed declaring all of the men on the island to be the common property of the women and prohibiting them from leaving the island, of owning property, or of having any type of authority or position in the society. With males such a valuable commodity, it was forbidden to kill or physically harm any male without just cause and due process of law (i.e, Kuzello's say-so). Kuzello herself oversaw all procreation, and no woman could bear a child without permission, and then only with the male selected for her in order to produce the best possible offspring. The Silver Sisterhood and priesthoods set to work together to develop sophisticated magical means of birth-control. Over the centuries, these have been refined to the point that the magical spells, potions, rings and pendants bearing Genifari birth-control magics are nearly foolproof, and are becoming increasingly in demand elsewhere in the Realms.
Kuzello's reign was a peaceful one. With no large human settlements in the Vilhon, there was no reason for merchant or pirate vessels to brave the treacherous channels and enter the Reach. Only the occasional fishing vessel or exploratory craft ever came within sight of Ixinos, and the reception they received quickly convinced them to give the island a wide berth, and to advise others to do the same.
Kuzello used some magic to prolong her life and preserve her appearance of youth and beauty, but, in keeping with the ancient laws of the Witch-Cult, she refused to resort to undeath as a means of self-preservation. The First Lady met her death in the one hundred and fourth year of her life, eighty-eight years before the beginning of Dalereckoning. As per her instructions, her chief bodyguard, Faisidsato, was named first Queen of Ixinos upon her death. Kuzello's eldest surviving apprentice, Alma, took charge of the Silver Sisterhood and became the first Silverstar.
The first few decades of Ixinian history were tense due to friction among the warriors, sorceresses and priestesses. Many customs developed that today would seem barbaric, such as the Combat of Succession, in which all of a dead queen's surviving adult daughters battled to the death for the succession. Fortunately, there was little interference from outside forces that might have overwhelmed the infant nation with little trouble. Cilindóte succeeded Faisidsato in -62 DR by slaying her two sisters, who were then raised and lived out their natural lives as slaves to their sister. Cilindóte's only daughter, Azunnormi, became queen in -35 and was still upon the throne at the time the Standing Stone was being raised in the Dales.

-150 |
Fall of Raumathar and Narfell. The witch Kuzello and her retinue, including her companion, the drow sorceress Aespathia, escape via Kuzello's "moon galleon" and eventually reach and settle on the island they name Ixinos. |
-88 |
Death of Kuzello. Faisidsato becomes first Queen of Ixinos. |
-62 |
The death of Queen Faisidsato. Since no law of succession has ever been established, it is decided that all of the queen's adult daughters who wish to contest for the throne will fight one another to the death, with the losers being raised afterwards and considered ever after as slaves of their victorious sister, at least in name. Princess Cilindóte kills her sisters Lalirsiba and Ilea on this occasion, and takes her mother's throne. Lalirsiba and Ilea are resurrected and compelled to wear golden bracelets on both wrists and both ankles as symbols of their bondage to their sister. Other than that, Cilindóte never invokes her ownership of the two princesses. From this event, the custom arises that all sisters of a reigning queen wear golden bracelets and anklets as symbols of their status; this custom continued until the end of the hereditary monarchy twelve centuries later. |

A crisis arises when Queen Vewidaude dies without having borne any daughters, and with no living sisters or close cousins. Her nearest relatives are the five great-granddaughters of the aforementioned Princess Lalirsiba. The five engage in a horrifyingly bloody combat of succession, in which the eldest cousin, Kaustalta zu'Eiláse, kills her sister Flani and her cousins Heto, Bota and Bíre, and nearly loses her own life as well. In disgust, the priestesses of Selûne declare that they will not raise the fallen princesses unless a more civilized method of determining the succession is settled upon. The new queen concedes that non-lethal combat should be substituted for the battle to the death, and the four princesses are resurrected. |
47 |
The first recorded military attack on Ixinos. Several pirate vessels, apparently in the pay of mercantile interests in Alaghôn who wish to control access to the Vilhon Reach, seize the islands of Ilighôn and Wavecrest and invade Ixinos. Expecting an easy victory, the land-bound pirates are surprised by the skilled Genifari warriors and cut to pieces. Since Ixinos has no navy, however, the pirate ships offshore have to be attacked by members of the Silver Sisterhood using fly spells or long-distance magical attacks. The pirates are routed from all three islands, and Queen Wimiesálme orders that ships be built for the purpose of defending against such attacks. |

A civil war nearly occurs when Queen Muzo attempts to have her eldest daughter Nuzo banned from the succession because Nuzo had conceived a daughter without the queen's permission, and with a man the queen had not approved of. Queen Muzo tries to have her younger daughter Prazunauno declared sole heir, but Nuzo and her supporters resist strenuously. The Nuzeri and Prazeri, as the two opposing camps are called, engage in a running feud that nearly erupts into open battle and threatens to tear the society apart. Fate intervenes when the Clinging Death plague strikes the island, killing more than 2,000 people and forcing the panic-stricken Genifari to unify in the face of the threat. The priestesses bring the epidemic under control. Queen Muzo contracts the disease and survives, but is left severely brain-damaged. Prazunauno makes peace by attending the birth of her sister's baby. The two agree to rule as co-regents for their mother. When Muzo dies five years later, Nuzo becomes queen and Prazunauno is named the first Queen's General of Ixinos. The phrase "Muzo and Nuzo" comes to refer to two women who bicker or argue a great deal. |
97 |
The Genifari agree to allow Hyrrin Drea, a female merchant captain from Hlondeth, to dock her ship at Tazixor for purposes of trade, the first time foreigners have been permitted to land on the island. There are immediate complaints that Drea's male sailors are making unwanted sexual advances on the Genifari, so a law is passed that all males must remain on board ship while visiting the island. Gradually, over the next century, a few more selected female captains are permitted to do business with the Genifari. |
102 |
Queen Reszudúse, daughter of Nuzo, begins her 64-year reign, the longest in Ixinian history. It is a time of persistent, but ineffective, pirate raids. |
195 |
Gilgeam, god-king of Unther, declares the newly-profitable Vilhon Reach area as his own domain and orders his navy to seize control of it. Spies sent into the region report that by taking the lightly-guarded group of islands in the mouth of the Reach, an effective base of operations can be established to control and annex the entire area. Without warning, a small but powerful Untheri naval force descends upon Ixinos, Ilighôn and Wavecrest, supported by high-level mages and priests. Stunned by the unexpected attack, the Genifari fight back as best they can. Although six Untheri ships are sunk and heavy casualties inflicted upon the invaders, fifteen members of the Silver Sisterhood and nearly 500 Genifari warriors are slain. When Queen Higiríre falls in battle with no immediate heir, the Ixinian morale breaks, and the island is conquered for the first time in its more than three centuries of history. Unfortunately for the Untheri, the unpredictable Gilgeam seems to immediately lose interest in the entire project. Most of the wizards and priests are called back to Unther as Gilgeam turns his attentions to troubles on his southern border, and the occupying force is left to hold the islands indefinitely. Most influential and/or attractive Genifari are forced to become concubines or playthings for the invaders. Meanwhile, the other nations of the Reach barely notice the Untheri presence in their midst. |
197 |
Following two years of growing hatred on the part of the Genifari and growing uneasiness on the part of the abandoned Untheri, the inevitable occures. Fino and Nogea, distant cousins of the slain queen, have both been forced into concubinage to the Untheri commander. They quietly organize the other women of Ixinos, the surviving priestesses and the remaining members of the Silver Sisterhood. On the first night of summer, nearly a thousand Untheri soldiers find themselves butchered in their beds by the women they had taken for pleasure. During the entirety of the following day, those Untheri who survive the Night of Silver and Blood are cast off the high sea-cliffs of the island. Nogea is proclaimed queen, and no Untheri warship ever again ventures into the Vilhon. |
257 |
The eruption of Mount Ugruth causes a fall of ash that destroys most of the crops on Ixinos. To prevent famine, Queen Debodeo gives permission to allow female merchants from Chessenta and Cormyr to trade with the island. |
275 |
Ixinos becomes embroiled in a running war between the goddesses Umberlee and Eldath (known as Datha to the Genifari) over influence in the Sea of Fallen Stars. Umberlee has gained worshipers by terrorizing mariners who failed to make sacrifice to her, and importing her own fell creatures. With Umberlee having bullied the pirates of the Sea of Fallen Stars into giving her tribute, Eldath knows she had to establish her own base of worship. Shortly after the coronation of young Queen Vritamasthi, Eldath appears to her in avatar form and convinces her to help establish a church of Eldath on Ixinos, in return for considerable powers of clerical water-magic to be inherited by all subsequent Ixinian queens, and aid against the continuing depradations of the pirates. The queen agrees, and a temple of Datha is established in Tazixor. For nearly 300 years, the queens of Ixinos will be known as the Water Queens or the Queens of Blue Sorcery. |
349 |
Less than a year into her reign, Queen Ira is discovered dead in her bedchamber, having apparently drowned herself with a miscast water spell. |
374 |
A group of druids claims the island of Ilighôn and establishes the House of Silvanus there. Ixinos has laid informal claim to both Ilighôn and Wavecrest for more than five hundred years, but used the islands for little more than a source of wood for shipbuilding. The 15-year-old queen of Ixinos, Fáeflie, is counseled to send a force to drive the druids away. Although they probably could have succeeded in this (for a time, at least), Fáeflie declares that Datha has sent her a dream to let the druids remain unmolested. The Genifari and the druids of Silvanus began an uneasy coexistence. |
418 |
Averri, daughter of Fáeflie, regarded as the greatest of all queens of Ixinos, begins her more than half-century reign. During her enlightened rule, the formalized Clan system is established. Males are given somewhat greater freedom and are no longer officially regarded as property. Great improvements are made in the military under the command of Averri's sister, Princess Dozorfa. Ixinos resumes much of its earlier isolationism, as the number of foreign merchants allowed to visit the island is pared down to a mere dozen. |
423 |
The first Goldring Council meets in the royal city of Gondro. Summoned by the queen, the council consists of the clan leaders, certain priestesses of Selûne and Datha, the Silverstar and a handful of other high-ranking mages, and General Dozorfa. The Council's purposes are to advise the queen, to propose laws and other actions which the queen can accept or reject at will, and to allow the island's leaders to work out problems and disagreements in a peaceful atmosphere. |
459 |
The mage/cleric Anzana Darahni begins attracting converts to the church of Lathea, the feminine aspect of Lathander. In 469, she lays the cornerstone of the Citadel of First Light atop Mt. Aphaea. |
462 |
The warrior Kuritha is named Queen's Champion after saving Ixinos from a dragon attack. |
474 |
Death of Queen Averri. |
475 |
Following the death of Queen Ilezesishi, Averri's daughter, the Crown Test devised by Averri is invoked to choose the new queen from between Ilezesishi's two daughters, Nobi and Bevesho. The test involves contests of physical prowess, fighting, problem-solving, and answering complex moral and spiritual questions. Bevesho wins the crown, and Nobi goes on to found a noble clan that continues to the present day. |
559 |
Weary of constant strife, and unwilling to send her priesthood into a holy war, Eldath capitulates in her long battle against Umberlee. To punish the Genifari for supporting Eldath, Umberlee sends one of her priestesses onto the island armed with a powerful divine spell. The spell causes the queen's palace in Gondro to fill entirely with salt water. Queen Bizameudo and over 200 members of her household drown. Fewer than fifty people escape. The church of Datha declines sharply from this point on. By the year 600, not a single cleric of the goddess remains on Ixinos. |
717 |
The druids of the Emerald Enclave on Ilighôn are attacked by a group of Turmish wizards known as The Windlass. The Ixinian Queen's General, Lemi Reszulo, asks the elderly Queen Hiskáze for permission to go to the aid of the druids. The queen, whose granddaughter Jui had been killed three years earlier when her ship was sunk by Windlass-sponsored pirates, agrees. A fleet of a dozen ships sails to Ilighôn and attacks the Turmish vessels from behind. This unlooked-for help enables the druids to dispatch the enemy ships quickly enough to send aid to their beleaguered colleagues in the Gulthmere Forest. The Enclave is victorious on both fronts. Following the battle, Ixinos and the Enclave conclude a treaty of mutual alliance, trade, and defense. It remains in effect to this day, and is still the only formal treaty ever entered into by Ixinos. This alliance makes it virtually impossible for the local pirates to succeed in their goal of wiping out one or both of the two groups, or for greedy mainlanders to seize the islands for their strategic value. |
806 |
During a severe storm, a ship founders in the Straits of Silvanus just north of Ixinos. Among the debris washing to shore are bodies of the crew and many manacled slaves, and a great locked strongbox. By using speak with dead upon one of the crewmembers, the Genifari discover that the slaves (from Turmish and Chondath) and the strongbox were being delivered to an anonymous wizard somewhere in the Old Empires. After overcoming the chest's magical wards and picking its locks, the Silver Sisterhood open it to find a powerful pair of linked artifacts of Netherese origin, known as the Sceptre of Red Sorcery and the Kilt of Red Sorcery. The artifacts are given to Queen Giféthe for the defense of the island. After being taught a few lessons, the pirates and raiders of the Reach leave Ixinos strictly alone for nearly half a century. However, a new source of irritation is gained in the form of many power-hungry wizards, who now for the first time find reason to turn their attentions to the little island. |
864 |
The era of Red Sorcery ends with a disaster known as the Great Firefall. With Ixinos under attack by a cadre of wizards known as the Dragon Brotherhood, Queen Isretho invokes the powers of the artifact. Just as she calls upon the killing fire power of the Sceptre, she unexpectedly loses control of the magic. A planar rift begins to open in the air a mile above the island, and a devastating rain of fire falls upon Ixinos. The invading wizards flee for their lives, but Ixinos stands in the greatest peril it has ever known. Hundreds of Ixinians are caught in the deadly storm and die horribly before they can reach fireproof shelter. The queen herself is utterly consumed by flames, despite wearing the very kilt that had previously given her total immunity to fire. Only the timely arrival of the druids of Ilighôn and the archmage Arraunt of Hlath save Ixinos (and perhaps that entire part of the Vilhon Reach) from utter destruction. Arraunt is able to create a partial, temporary shield above the island. As terrified Genifari gaze upward to see sheets of flame running off the invisible barrier like rain off a glass-domed roof, the most senior druids of the Emerald Enclave join forces to close the rift. Ixinos is saved, but more than 1,000 Ixinians have been burned to death and over 3,000 permanently disabled or disfigured by burns. The artifacts (which survive unharmed) are placed in magically-guarded storage in the vaults beneath Stormwatch House, the headquarters of the Silver Sisterhood, and are never used again. |
866 |
Queen Buta officially cedes the uninhabited island of Wavecrest to the Emerald Enclave. |
869 |
Weréne Torvika and her companions, after an expedition to Cormyr and the Dalelands, return preaching the cause of a new goddess, Tormo (the feminine aspect of Torm). Weréne becomes high priestess of Tormo, and the goddess of honorable combat and duty gains many followers among the Genifari. The church becomes one of the three major religions of Ixinos, along with those of Selûne and Lathea. |
925 |
A werewolf, probably sent by the priests of Malar in Chondath who want the Eyes of Silvanus islands for themselves, secretly murders Queen Jazeilurdi and takes her place by means of shapechanging magic. The priestesses of Selûne rapidly detect the deception, and the false queen is slain by Jazeilurdi's daughter Auzoi, who becomes queen. |
977 |
At the coronation of Auzoi's daughter Keza, the mysterious Mage of the Mirrored Mask appears and gifts the new queen with the Tunic of Mirrors. |
1012 |
The Mage of the Mirrored Mask reappears, at the coronation of Queen Bíze, and gives her the Orb of Mirrors. |
1018 |
The Rage of Dragons. Only one wyrm, the black dragon Orbisidian, attacks the Eyes of Silvanus. He is driven off by the Emerald Enclave and Silver Sisterhood with only minimal loss of life. |
1060 |
The Mage of the Mirrored Mask appears for the third and last time, to give the Sceptre of Mirrors to the new queen, Vonutha. The Regalia of Mirrors is now complete, and becomes the official garb of the Queens of Ixinos forever after. |
1150 |
Queen Noregése is killed in battle during a raid by a pirate lord known as Droll Pete. A year later, he is cornered by a Genifari fleet led by Semmetha the Red, killed by her in single combat, and his three ships sent to the bottom with all hands. The treasure from the ships is brought back to Ixinos. |
1181 |
Queen Eri becomes the second consecutive Ixinian ruler to die at the hands of pirates. Her daughter, Queen Aska, launches an all-out war on the pirates in the Vilhon Reach area. The war lasts seven years, during which time nearly 500 Genifari warriors lose their lives; however, over 100 pirate ships are sunk, and their power is severely reduced in the region for well over a century. |
1245 |
The blue dragon Anaglathos, who for three years has been ruler of Turmish, turns his sights to the Eyes of Silvanus, as many before him had, in the hopes of controlling travel into and out of the Reach. Knowing that his forces are not yet strong enough to conquer the Emerald Enclave on its own turf, he decides to take Ixinos and use it as a staging point for his eventual attack on the druids. A large fleet out of Turmish, accompanied by scores of evil wizards and priests and Anaglathos himself, descend upon Ixinos with almost no warning. In the carnage that follows, a quarter of the Genifari are slain. The cities of Tazixor, Gondro and Euzoret are ruined. The druids of Ilighôn, preoccupied with trying to defend their own island from expected invasion, are unable to assist. Queen Sirhala, only 21 years old, is tortured to death by being forced to stand in a shallow pond while Anaglathos breathes his electrical breath upon the surface, slowly electrocuting her. With the queen having no heir, and the Ixinian leadership in total confusion, they fall easy prey to the invaders. The dragon and his army overwhelm and conquered Ixinos. The dragon's forces carry off everything of value they can find, including over a thousand Genifari for use as slaves. Those left on the island fare little better during the following two years. |
1246 |
With Anaglathos having returned to Turmish and Ixinos left in the hands of the dragon's half-orc governor, Lord Agharr, the Genifari suffer a year of brutality, torture, rape and humiliation. Clan Lekére is completely exterminated after one of its members attempts to assassinate Lord Agharr and succeeds in crippling him in the right leg. |
1247 |
Liberation arrives at last when a heroic band of adventurers, led by the Turmish paladin Corwin Freas, ambushes and kills Anaglathos. Among this band are two Genifari warriors, Finvazano and Rizieki. When news reaches Ixinos, all of the Genifari on the island rise up under the leadership of Heshea Truespear, and, aided by the Emerald Enclave, fall upon the invaders. Under the light of a full moon, the servants of the dragon are slain to the last man. Not a single invader is known to have escaped. This night will be commemorated forever after by the annual Festival of Redmoon. With no members of the royal family surviving, a hastily assembled Goldring Council offers the crown to Heshea Truespear, who refuses. After deliberation, it is decided that the leadership vacuum following the execution of Queen Sirhala was largely responsible for the island's quick defeat. It is resolved that the monarchy should be abolished and the Council should directly rule Ixinos, so that the country will not be left leaderless due to the death of a single person. Heshea Truespear is inducted into the Council and made the first War-mistress of Ixinos, her task being to lead the army and to assume dictatorial powers in the event of an invasion. Rebuilding begins immediately. Tazixor and Gondro are rebuilt, and Gondro renamed Sirhala, in honor of the last queen. The royal mansion is rebuilt as headquarters for the Goldring Council. The northern port city of Euzoret has been almost totally destroyed, its beautiful marble villas and columned promenades reduced to ruins. Some of the marble is used to build the new, smaller fishing village of Anarae on the same site. |
1257 |
The heroes Finvazano and Rizieki found the mercenary company later known as the Sisterhood of Bronze, comprised of the most promising young warriors, priestesses and mages on the island. The Sisterhood has three stated purposes: to give the Genifari real fighting experience and keep them sharp even when Ixinos is at peace; to provide an always-ready fighting force to defend the island at any time; and to give the Genifari greater knowledge of the outside world without having to pollute their island with foreigners. The group, with a constantly rotating membership, is active mostly in Chondath and Turmish, but eventually finds employment at various times throughout the Inner Sea lands, specializing in actions against the Pirates of the Fallen Stars. Over the decades, the group becomes better known by its nickname: The She-Wolves. |
1280 |
Heshea Truespear dies. Finvazano retires from the She-Wolves to take her place as War-mistress. |
1297 |
The Council of Daughters is formed. An auxiliary to the Goldring Council, this group is comprised of the young favorites and proteges of the Goldring Council members. The Daughters gain the right to enforce the laws of the island, and to attend and speak in Goldring Council meetings (but not to vote). It will become traditional for new members of the Goldring Council to be chosen from among the Daughters. Finvazano retires as War-mistress and is succeeded by Nethrea Nobi. |
1323 |
Nethrea Nobi dies, and is replaced by Vahero, the commander of the She-Wolves. |
1333 |
The Goldring Council votes to grant the War-mistress the title of Queen, and give her expanded powers (though not the absolute authority exercised by the hereditary queens of the past). Vahero is crowned Vahero Tarixon, the first Elected Queen of Ixinos, and given the Regalia of Mirrors. |
1350 |
Anegè Zinthani becomes Silverstar of the Silver Sisterhood. |
1357 |
The War of the Iron Legion. An evil mage named Yrkhetep (actually an arcanaloth from the Lower Planes) attempts to conquer the Vilhon Reach. The war never reaches Ixinos, with most of the fighting occurring in more westerly areas of the Reach, and the She-Wolves are kept at home to protect Ixinos and Ilighôn in the event of an attack. Several of the more adventurous young Genifari do participate in the war by attaching themselves to other companies. Some of them join the Company of the Singing Dawn, most notably Taranteo Weréne, who, under the name Taran, becomes commander of Solara's Elite. After several epic battles, Yrkhetep is defeated. |
1358 |
The Time of Troubles. Although the repercussions of the Fall of the Gods are as frightening to the Ixinians as to everyone else in the Realms, the Genifari will not realize until after the Re-Ascension how narrowly they escaped disaster. Umberlee, evil goddess of the sea, dedicates her time on Toril to pursuing vengeance on all the mortals who have crossed her over the years. Working in concert with her ally Malar, she first settles some scores among the Pirate Isles, and then resolves to make her way toward the Eyes of Silvanus to punish the Genifari for siding with Eldath against her all those centuries ago, and for killing so many of her pirate and slaver worshipers; also to destroy the Emerald Enclave for foiling her plans repeatedly over the years. Knowing that Silvanus is in the area, and not willing to confront him directly, Umberlee sends Malar to cause destruction in the Gulthmere Forest in order to lure Silvanus away from the islands. The plan fails, as the demi-power Nobanion, rather than Silvanus, steps forth to challenge Malar, and succeeds in driving the Lord of the Hunt out of the Vilhon Reach in a humiliating defeat. Silvanus remains in the eastern Reach, and Umberlee dares not carry out her vengeance. It is said that after the Re-Ascension, relations between Umberlee and Malar cooled as the frustrated goddess continually ridiculed her erstwhile ally for his defeat at Nobanion's claws, and his later embarrassment at the hands of another mere demi-power, Gwaeron Windstrom. |
