The Ixinians do not mint money. Most of the trade done among islanders involves payment in kind. Gemstones are the preferred form of currency -- they can be spent directly as cash, with values as indicated in the Dungeon Master's Guide. Glass and fake gems will almost certainly be recognized, with unpleasant consequences for the one trying to pass them. Coinage of other lands is good in Ixinos, as long as the coin has inherent value (i.e., is made of precious metal, not simply a token representing money in a treasury somewhere). Trade bars are accepted; all forms of paper money are worthless. Most of the clans hoard a modest amount of treasure in the form of coinage, trade bars, and gems. Attempting to spend the coinage of Unther, Mulhorand or Thay in Ixinos is considered an insult. |
